The founders of the B1 Sexshops are the 2 brothers Martin and Harrie van Bree. Started as a greengrocer and grown into prosperous sex farmers. From the vegetable garden and the various weekly markets to a better business they found in a mail order company. This was at a time when the pill was still common and the “hygienic rubber goods” were only available at the capital's chemist or shops. The alternative in that not so distant past was to sing out of church, or yet another family expansion. In this period before the sexual revolution, Harrie and Martin started building their sex empire at the age of 17 and 18. The name of the mail order company, Nameru (National Medical Rubber Articles), which only had 1 item in the package, preservatives (condoms). It ran like a fast train for 8 years, they sent their flyers to newlyweds, because that iron must be forged when it is hot, the brothers already knew. They were also still on the market and the condoms also flew out the door in individual sales, fellow marketers were the first buyers, they bought for their own use or they in turn sold the preservatives (at that time many young with a condom in his pocket, to demonstrate his experience and virility).
